i read on wikipedia that it uses the slower 50hz pal version, does anyone have first hand experience with the pc version and know if it uses the 60hz ntsc or not?
it's on sale someplace, and I have been missing my sonic fix. since my xbox is broken.
Don't say 'just emulate it.' because that's puuuuuuracy.

Just emulate it, man. The Sonic party is over, and I'm guessing that most of us paid good money for Sonic already at one point or another. But, what's another $5, right?

The Amazon.com reviews mention it being the PAL version as well, for what its worth. I'm guessing that it's definitely PAL still, though I have no first hand knowledge.

One word of caution, Sega's usual PC support strikes again and the Xbox360 controller flatly refuses to work with it.

True but Joypad support is the very least Sega could have done with the port. Then again Sega are a shadow of their former selves so I shouldn't be surprised.

If someone has this version, launch the first level and listen to the music. Then, compare it with this one (from the 60hz version). If it's slower, then it's probably the 50hz version.

Since this game was released before the Xbox 360 existed, I wouldn't think it would have 360 gamepad support. I use a Logitech 'PSX' style USB controller for the Sega Genesis PC collection that was released years ago (I'm talking Win 98 days). No problem getting it to work with those games. Maybe try one of those? You can get a basic controller (no analog sticks or rumble) for $10.

Wow, that really sucks. And doesn't make a bit of sense. Playing console games without gamepad support. I've heard of console ports not working right with a KB/M, but not the other way around.

Gremmi: Joypad support in Sonic Mega Collection Plus on PC is broken full stop, 360 controller or no.

Wrong, I use a USB SNES controller with it (I know, I'm evil) and it works fine, so it can't be broken full stop.
Also, it appears someone is spreading misinformation on Wikipedia. I've just tested my copy against Gens running Sonic 1 and it's very definitely running at 60Hz. The music speed is the most obvious thing but also the way Sonic handles and everything about it tells me it's running at full speed.
